Budget Cuts- Target Mental Health Population!

To whom it may concern...

It has been brought to my attention that the state of Massachusetts wants to make budget cuts that will target people less fortunate than you and I. Not only will unemployment rates increase as a result, but rendering support to those incapable of caring for themselves will be next to impossible.

For one, budget cuts will mean less available staff in mental health care facilities, which in turn means increased ratios; while decreasing security and stability. Thus alluding that whether it's a day care facility or a residential program, individuals with intellectual disabilities will no longer have access to the 1:1 or 1:4 support that is essential for their well-being and safety.

Second, with less staff on hand to provide developmental support, individuals who currently enjoy the right for equal employment opportunities, will like-wise be affected by these cuts. After all, if remaining staff are needed on an "all hands on deck" basis, there will be no staff accessible for transportation and vocational training.

With all due respect, history has been anything but kind to these people; who were at one time cast aside, mistreated, uneducated, and more. Granted, a society that has once shunned these people, has come a long way. Therefore, why are we taking that step back? Why are we re-creating history, by targeting a population that has been forever preyed upon by society? Why are we taking away, what the constitution has amended in behalf of all; despite your race, sex, age, culture, infirmity etc? What happened to human rights and equality? Last, but not least, what are we trying to accomplish here?

Indeed, I am fully aware that this world is on the verge of an economic crash. I am also aware that this world is so far in debt, that they are sinking into quicksand each and every day. But I also know that making budget cuts, especially in this area, isn't going to be the solution to the problem, nor is it going to restore the debts that have already been created. On the contrary, the effects will be more damaging and tragic, than anything. So for those of you reading this, please consider the cons before you consider the pros. Please consider the aftermath or consequences that could result from making a firm decision on the affairs presented.

In conclusion, I speak in behalf of all who have worked so hard to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the individuals that they proudly serve. I also speak in behalf of every individual, whether or not they have the cognitive ability to speak up for themselves.

So "to whom it may concern",

please take this time to realize- that it concerns, YOU!
